Our control room has some of the best front end & DAW systems available today. We use the Midas M32 40 channel digital console as our front end interface. This enables us to record up to 32 channels of audio simultaneously. We use Pro Tools as our main recording platform but have Logic Pro available if required. We also have P16-M Personal Monitors for all musicians when tracking & iPads to access the desk directly for precision monitoring (Drummers like this option).
We use Genelec 8040A, 1030A, 1029A, Yamaha HS80M & Tanoy monitoring, for tracking & playback. For musicians, we use predominantly Beyer & AKG headphones, with unlimited monitoring channels.
Computers & Software
Black Tree uses Apple computers exclusively. We’ve been using Mac’s for 15 years & have found it the best option for audio & video applications. If you require stability & reliability, then go Mac. We use Pro Tools as our main recording platform, we find it a fast & totally reliable piece of kit. In the world of recording, Pro Tools is the industry standard.
We have a selection of synths; Yamaha, Roland, Korg, Novation & Emu & Guitar Processors; Boss & Line 6 are available on request. We also have a selection of acoustic, electric guitars available if needed.

One of the main features of Black Tree is our live room; Solid wood floors, oak beams, solid oak doors & plastered walls, give our live room a rich, warm ambient sound. Ideal for bringing out the natural tones of any instrument and indeed any band.
The live room is perfect for recording live sessions (old school), Plug in, turn up & play. The beauty of recording a band live is; you capture the energy & performance, that often gets lost in a normal multitrack session. We obviously still record using multitracking, but nothing beats a group of musicians playing live.
Another great use is recording drums. By placing the kit in the middle of the room & using the combination of close mic’s & ambient room mic’s you can record a very organic drum kit with a natural room sound. We’ve even had bands book the studio just to record drums for their album. As everybody knows; the secret to a great sounding album, is an awesome drum sound.
Uses So far: Full band live recording, drums for albums, solo Harp & a choir. And obviously regular band multitrack sessions.
The real beauty of the Black Tree Drum area is versatility. Using a combination of a open drum booth which has sound reflective insulation is that we can close mic your drums for a nice, tight drum sound.
Combine that with the option of ambient microphones in the live room, you can record the best of both worlds.
Also for bands who want the option of recording your kit in a totally rich & natural sounding room. Putting the drums in the middle of our live room & careful mic placement we can capture the natural ambient reverb, with out the need of additional artificial reverb.
All the great drums you hear on your favourite albums, were recorded in large live rooms. Now you have the same option without spending your entire album budget.
We know 95% of drummers will bring your own kit, it is the norm. We also know some of you guys will opt for the use your own snare, pedals & cymbals. But for the rest, we have a studio kit. Professionally tuned & ready to go at no extra cost.
We have a five piece Sonor Drum kit: 22 inch Bass Drum, 14 inch Chrome Snare, 10 inch Rack, 12 inch Rack & a 16 inch Floor Tom. Single or double bass drum pedals, with Paiste hats & cymbals.
